2022 WV Action Championship

22 players competed in the ’22 WV Action Championship, held in Huntington on June 11. Lewis Sanders and John Boylin share the Action Championship, each scoring 5-1. 6 players tied for 3rd, including Sam Timmons, Ryan Ward, and Elijah Schultz who took home the U1700 prizes. Ryan VanBibber and Max Aguilar were 1st-2nd in the U1100 class.

Lewis has extended his lead in the Grand Prix and can likely only be caught by going into hiding and Sam Timmons winning the State Championship.

51st WV State Scholastic Championship

After a 2 year hiatus, the WV Scholastic Championship returned on April 2 in Clarksburg. 63 players competed in 4 sections (K-12, K-8, K-5, K-3). The winners are:
K-12: Shrihan Malkaram
K-8: John Boylin
K-5: Gagana Sadineni
K-3: Alexandrea VanMeter

YMCA Winter Open

29 players competed in the YMCA Winter Open in Huntington, on December 11. The Open Section was a four-way tie for first between John Roush, Lewis Sanders, Sam Timmons, and Markle Butcher. Each scored 3 points. Weston Robarts swept the U1500 section with a perfect 4/4.

WV Senior Championship

The 7th Annual WV Senior Championship was held on November 6, 2021 in Clarksburg. 13 players competed in the event. Jimmy Fuller repeated as Senior Champion with a score of 3.5/4. 2nd-3rd was Mike Baker and Jim Sutherland. The 70+ winner was Konnie Dolgovskij and the 60+ winner was Markle Butcher.

WVCA Junior Championship

7 players competed in the WV Junior Championship, which was held Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Clarksburg. The event was won by Noah Stafford with a perfect 3-0 score, who earned an excellent provisional rating of 1459. One of the contestants, Pushkal Solanki, joined the open championship on Sunday and took the upset prize with a last-round win over James Reszler.

Summer Open

23 players attended the Summer Open in Saint Albans on August 14.

John Boylin won the open section with a perfect 3-0 score, including wins over David Hines and Lewis Sanders. John was the lowest rated player in the open section! Probably won’t be that way for long…

Carl Hudson won the U1600 with a 3-0 score.
